Tsunami: Despair monolog

Tonight: Variably cloudy with scattered thunderstorms. Low 76F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%. Rainfall possibly over one inch.

Tsunami wave

I felt despair, sad and shock. The news on TV showing latest death toll, 71000. “Can the number be lesser?” I asked myself for a couple of time.

It was this disaster that alerted me the power of nature. Continuos development without conservation and ecological consideration is harmful to the nature. This killer waves, perhaps signaled us to balance development and enviornment preservation. Start to appreciate what we have and do what we can to protect the nature.

For sure, I will pray for the the victims and their families with a sincere heart and let’s do what we can for those who had lost everything.

Tiger cup 2004: Malaysia 2 - 1 Indonesia

Moody, still saddened by the increasing death toll of tsunami waves that ripped through South and South-East Asia on Sunday. Latest, I was told by my friend that the toll surges past 55,000, Sri Lanka tsunami toll hits 17,640. Tight work schedules and dealines ahead. I was puzzled.

Wandering around, undecided whether should I watch the long awaiting match between Indonesia and Malaysia. Just finished my dinner, a simple noodle soup at 9:30 p.m. Finally went to that familiar coffee shop, where I catch my weekened football match.

The Malaysian team didn’t dissapoint me.

My first glimpse of the match
About 9:40 p.m, replay of Liew Kit Kong superb header that gave Malaysia the equalizer shown, I asked around… 1-1. Wow, Bicskei’s guys held the Indonesian team to a draw in the first half.

Second half
Second min into the second half, Kit Kong chipped the ball past Indonesia keeper to give Malaysia the lead. After that, the Indonesian was trying their very best for an equalizer. The sentiments of the fans inside Stadium Utama Senayan grow tenser as the game moved on. The crowd resorted to throw bottles whenever a Malaysian player came near the pitch to take corner or throw in. One good example is Amri Yahyah, he was shown yellow card by the referee for time delaying while trying to take a corner but couldn’t do so due to obstruction of the Indonesian fans.

Then, a free kick was given to the Indonesian. Syamsuri could not catch the ball well, but luckly Norhafiz, who was standing in front of the goal line, headed the ball off the line.

Malaysia opted to bring in fresh legs to enhance defence. Amri Yahyah, Khalid Jamlus and Kit Kong were substituted by D. Surendran, Mohd Nor Ismail and Ivan Yusoff.

Gusty performance. Keep it up.

Second leg
Full house at Bukit Jalil stadium this Saturday? Malaysia, look out for Boas Salossa and Ilham Jaya Kesuma, both suspended from the first leg. They will be fielded by Withe on Saturday. These two have scored a total of nine goals for Indonesia in the group stage.

1978: Malaysia 1 - 1 England

Tonight: Scattered thunderstorms. Low 76F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 40%.

A moment for us to flash back…

1978
Malaysia [1 - 1] England
[0 - 1] Paul Mariner
[1 - 1] Mokhtar Dahari

And yes, we kicked their backsides in football, the right boot of the late Mokhtar Dahari denting English pride with a well-struck blow to the top corner post past the intimidating Joe Corrigan to cancel out Paul Mariner’s lead in what was an epic 1-1 draw that has since made time stand still for Malaysian football.

Interesting facts of Malaysia football team in Tiger Cup

2002: Premier One top scorer Khalid Jamlus (17 goals) not included in the squad. He was dropped from the team for bad attitude by the then coach, Englishman Allan Harris.

2004: Super league top scorer Indra Putra (15 goals) was excluded from the final 22. Malaysia coach Bertalan Bicskei said:
“Indra is a very good football player but he trained very badly and his performances were very bad (for his club) in the last few months,”
“He has not scored a goal for the national team in the last two years, since the last Tiger Cup in fact (when he was Malaysia’s top scorer with four goals). Given those three things why should I put him in the team?”
“Also he created a bad atmosphere (amongst the players) in the squad.”

Sasanaramsi burmese buddhist temple

Tonight: Variably cloudy with scattered thunderstorms. Low near 75F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.

This is my entry for 3 Dec 2004.

Next door of Sun Yat Sen Nanyang memorial hall is a Burmese Buddhist temple - Sasanaramsi Temple.

BBT

Time for lunch, took a stroll along Balestier Road, there are quite a number of “red bean biscuit” (Dau Sa Pia) shops, maybe this is what here famous for.

This is my entry for 3 Dec 2004.

Scene I: Walked pass my so-called vcd rack, saw vcds Towards a Republic (Zou Xiang Gong He), which I borrowed from a friend, sitting nicely on the rack. This is a 59-episode series detailing political upheaval in the late Qing Dynasty, depicted pioneers of democracy such as Dr Sun Yat Sen, who preached democratic ideals and explained the intricacies of the election process.

Scene III: Zaobao online has a text link ads to Sun Yat Sen Nanyang memorial hall (known as Wan Qing Yuan in chinese).

SYS memorial

Decided to pay a visit the above mentioned location.

Guide: (1) MRT to Toa Payoh. (2) SBS transit bus 139 or 145 from Toa Payoh bus interchange and alight at the 3rd bus stop. Alternatively, you can walk from interchange to Balestier Road. (3) Pay admission of S$3.

SYS memorial look

The current memorial hall was once residence of Dr. Sun in Singapore in the early 20th century and this is also the place where he started his revolutionary works in South East Asia. This visit has been enlightening as I learned more about Dr. Sun’s life, his struggle and vision for democracy and new China. Atmosphere around this colonial Victoria style villa is quite refreshing, with a few tropical plants and some revolutionary statues.

Sitting at a corner and look at Dr. Sun statue, maybe this is a way to respect his contributions.

I-Nam: Rak Khon Mee Chaokong

Tonight: Scattered thunderstorms. Low near 75F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.

I-Nam

29.10.04 Not too sure whether I came across this song, while I was in Bangkok.
22.11.04 Arrived at Ubon Ratchathani. Maybe, ehhh… at the bus station or train station, I heard this song for the first time.
23.11.04 Still not too sure, perhaps I heard it again, at Prathunam area. Dropped by a VCD shop - Scorpion. Hmm this song to the sales assistant… Ha! To my surprise, I can remember the melody of this song. Without hesitation, he drawed I-Nam CD and MTV from the rack for me to choose. I brought the MTV for 139 Baht.

You may like to litsen to this song.

The meaning of this “friendly” song is Falling in love with someone having a partner (owner). Just tesr it out now… You will like it.

Now, I try to learn more about I-Nam. The five lads from Buri Ram — vocalist Jittrakorn Boonsorn (Fluke), 19, guitarist Kasit Ponlawan (Air), 20, bass guitarist Udomchai Boonpromon (Kob), 20, guitarist Metha Pilerd (Fak), 20, and drummer Mai Sukadecha (Mai), 20 — are the current darlings of Thailand’s music industry. They are really young and talented.

Some research I made:

“With the current No. 1 song on the music charts, a hit follow-up album and the attention of music fans across the country, life isn’t just heating up for I-Nam — in fact, it’s absolutely steaming. I-Nam released their first album, I-Nam, two years ago and the track “Thee Nueng Mai Wai (Can’t Be Number One)” spent considerable time on the charts. Their latest track, “Rak Khon Mee Chaokong (Love the Unavailable)” from the album of the same name, is currently sitting on top of the music charts.”

Another song, Ruk Kon, look promising. Still under my evaluation.

Let try to go through the lyrics of I-Nam hit song:

Rak Khon Mee Chaokong

mai saab mun ben rai mai roo waa maa ngai aa-gaan ruk ter
I don’t know what’s the matter, don’t know what’s going on, signs I love you.

gor roo mee kon jong yung baa bai yeun mong dtok yen gor per
I also know you have someone, I’m still mad looking at it, in the evening I’m in a delirium.

yim hai meua jer gun peua flook bai wun wun mai glaa kor ber
Smiling when meeting, maybe lucky someday, not brave enough to ask for the telephone number.

gor roo ter mee faen mai dai ja bai taen tee kon kong ter
Knowing that you have a partner, I’m not going to replace the one you have.

ai kon maa tee lung gor dtong sao dtor bai
I’m the one coming after, and must continue to be sad,

dtae ot jai mai wai meua dai glai gup ter
but I cannot control my heart when close to you

ja jook dtai yoo laew na taa ruk nee mai dai bork ter
I shall be so uptight if I cannot tell you about this love.

long ruk kon mee jao kong aep mong yoo took wun
Falling in love with someone having a partner (owner), every day secretly watching,

bai long chawp faen chai baan tung tee roo dtua
falling for the partner of a compatriote. Even knowing myself,

ter naa ruk took jai nuk mai ker-ee ben yaang nee
that you are lovely, that I like you very much, it can never be like this.

long ruk kon mee jao kong aep mong yoo chao yen
Falling in love with someone who has a partner, watching secretly morning to night

gor roo waa kong tam dai kae tao nee
and knowing that can probably do only this much,

kae pop ter kit teung laew norn fun dee
only meet you, think of you, sleep and have a good dream.

mai dai ja ge-re mai kit bai moh-me yaeng faen kong krai
I will not be mischievous, will not be plotting to snatch someone’s partner.

gor kae ben aa-gan kong poo tee naan naan ja aeb ruk krai
That is only the state of a person that for a long time will secretly love someone.

(Interlude)

ai kon maa tee lung gor dtong sao dtor bai

Falling in love with someone who has a partner, watching secretly morning to night

gor roo waa kong tam dai kae tao nee
and knowing that can probably do only this much,

kae pop ter kit teung laew norn fun dee
only meet you, think of you, sleep and have a good dream.

dai pop ter dai kit teung ler-ee norn fun dee
Can meet you, can think of you, I can sleep and have a good dream only.
