Sun Yat Sen Nanyang memorial hall
Today: Scattered thunderstorms. High near 90F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 40%.
This is my entry for 3 Dec 2004.
Scene I: Walked pass my so-called vcd rack, saw vcds Towards a Republic (Zou Xiang Gong He), which I borrowed from a friend, sitting nicely on the rack. This is a 59-episode series detailing political upheaval in the late Qing Dynasty, depicted pioneers of democracy such as Dr Sun Yat Sen, who preached democratic ideals and explained the intricacies of the election process.

Scene II: Lonely planet Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei: Sights to visit in Northern & Central Singapore - Sun Yat Sen Nanyang memorial hall, p. 469.

Scene III: Zaobao online has a text link ads to Sun Yat Sen Nanyang memorial hall (known as Wan Qing Yuan in chinese).
Decided to pay a visit the above mentioned location.
Guide: (1) MRT to Toa Payoh. (2) SBS transit bus 139 or 145 from Toa Payoh bus interchange and alight at the 3rd bus stop. Alternatively, you can walk from interchange to Balestier Road. (3) Pay admission of S$3.
The current memorial hall was once residence of Dr. Sun in Singapore in the early 20th century and this is also the place where he started his revolutionary works in South East Asia. This visit has been enlightening as I learned more about Dr. Sun’s life, his struggle and vision for democracy and new China. Atmosphere around this colonial Victoria style villa is quite refreshing, with a few tropical plants and some revolutionary statues.
Sitting at a corner and look at Dr. Sun statue, maybe this is a way to respect his contributions.
