2002: Premier One top scorer Khalid Jamlus (17 goals) not included in the squad. He was dropped from the team for bad attitude by the then coach, Englishman Allan Harris.
2004: Super league top scorer Indra Putra (15 goals) was excluded from the final 22. Malaysia coach Bertalan Bicskei said:
“Indra is a very good football player but he trained very badly and his performances were very bad (for his club) in the last few months,”
“He has not scored a goal for the national team in the last two years, since the last Tiger Cup in fact (when he was Malaysia’s top scorer with four goals). Given those three things why should I put him in the team?”
“Also he created a bad atmosphere (amongst the players) in the squad.”

2002: Amri Yahyah who suffered a fractured left leg, crashed out of the national team. The accident happened while he was riding a Yamaha RXZ after buying some food for buka puasa , his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a pickup lorry at Glenmarie.
2004: Akmal Rizal is recovering from a troublesome knee injury, which required surgery.
