Tiger cup 2004: Malaysia 2 - 1 Indonesia

Tonight: Variably cloudy with scattered thunderstorms. Low 76F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.

Moody, still saddened by the increasing death toll of tsunami waves that ripped through South and South-East Asia on Sunday. Latest, I was told by my friend that the toll surges past 55,000, Sri Lanka tsunami toll hits 17,640. Tight work schedules and dealines ahead. I was puzzled.

Wandering around, undecided whether should I watch the long awaiting match between Indonesia and Malaysia. Just finished my dinner, a simple noodle soup at 9:30 p.m. Finally went to that familiar coffee shop, where I catch my weekened football match.

The Malaysian team didn’t dissapoint me.

My first glimpse of the match
About 9:40 p.m, replay of Liew Kit Kong superb header that gave Malaysia the equalizer shown, I asked around… 1-1. Wow, Bicskei’s guys held the Indonesian team to a draw in the first half.

Second half
Second min into the second half, Kit Kong chipped the ball past Indonesia keeper to give Malaysia the lead. After that, the Indonesian was trying their very best for an equalizer. The sentiments of the fans inside Stadium Utama Senayan grow tenser as the game moved on. The crowd resorted to throw bottles whenever a Malaysian player came near the pitch to take corner or throw in. One good example is Amri Yahyah, he was shown yellow card by the referee for time delaying while trying to take a corner but couldn’t do so due to obstruction of the Indonesian fans.

Then, a free kick was given to the Indonesian. Syamsuri could not catch the ball well, but luckly Norhafiz, who was standing in front of the goal line, headed the ball off the line.

Malaysia opted to bring in fresh legs to enhance defence. Amri Yahyah, Khalid Jamlus and Kit Kong were substituted by D. Surendran, Mohd Nor Ismail and Ivan Yusoff.

Gusty performance. Keep it up.

Second leg
Full house at Bukit Jalil stadium this Saturday? Malaysia, look out for Boas Salossa and Ilham Jaya Kesuma, both suspended from the first leg. They will be fielded by Withe on Saturday. These two have scored a total of nine goals for Indonesia in the group stage.
