Tiger cup 2004: Malaysia 2 - 1 Myanmar

Tonight: Variable clouds with scattered thunderstorms. Low around 75F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 50%.

The long awaiting day finally came. Malaysia looking for avenge their defeat against Myanmar in the group match, as well as finding a way to recover dissapointment of fans, much to the 1 - 4 lost to Indonesia. Sokong tetap sokong, as mentioned earlier. Headed to Lavendar MRT at around 5:30 pm and suppose to meet C and G. L will join us later around 7 plus. C arrived first and G joined in 10 minutes later.

6:45 p.m., walked towards the stadium, can see quite a number of Myanmar fans already inside the stadium. Selangor fans club supporters, who came all the way from Malaysia since yesterday midnight, hung a long and big jalur gemilang. They were sitting at left block of west entrance. Wow! Feel hungry and without wasting time, headed to S-11 coffee shop near the stadium to have our dinner. C ordered Ngo Hiong while me and G picked Ba Cho Mee, one of the many varieties of boiled noodles served with various ingredients.

L arrived at 7:22 pm and we entered the stadium. Sang Negaraku loudly. Three Myanmar fans, originally sitting near to us, right block of east entrance, were ordered by the police officer incharge to move to left block, where most of the Myanmar fans situated. Maybe security reasons. Last two week match against Singapore saw a few Myanmar fans injured.

The atmosphere were goods, fans from either side cheering their team… 15th minute, Khaironisam sent a long ball and Khalid stopped it nicely, powered the shot from an acute angle, Goal! He scored his sixth in the tournament, same style, as what he did against Indonesia.

Then, Myanmar was looking hard for an equalizer. Malaysia was lucky enough as Myanmar hitting the cross bar twice.

Kit Kong being substituted out 5 minutes later after the break. 56th minute, Myanmar levelled the score 1 - 1, thanks to their captain, Soe Myat Min. The ball seems like offside but linesman gave no agree, while Malaysian players hopping for an offside decision.

Lack of something, I think… Until now, midfield still lack of something, perhaps a clear leader, who can read the game well and motivate the others. Fadzli missed a few chances, made me very very frustrating.

Nantha came in and brought some momentum. Surenden played better in the second half. 56th minute, Khalid made a good run on the right and fired a shot, the ball bounced to Mohd Nor and he scored his first international goal and second for Malaysia.

Myanmar substitute No. 2 Khin Maung Tun had good run, speedy. Watch out for him, in the near future. Last minute, injury time saw opponent earned a free kick, just outside penalty box. Hush… the ball just over the bar. 2 - 1 to Malaysia and claimed the third place of Tiger cup 2004.

Tiger cup 2004: Sokong tetap sokong

Today: Partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms possible. High 92F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 30%.

I was silenced when the Indonesian keep scoring goal in the second half, dishearten… 3.1.2004 will remain in my memory.

Tomorrow is the day for Malaysia to give a good account of themselves and erase poor performance against Myanmar in the group stage and Indonesia in the second leg.

Ok, hope for all the best. 15.1.2005, 7:30 pm at Jalan Besar stadium.

South indochina trip: Day 0 - Bangkok to Aranyaprathet

Today: Variable clouds with scattered thunderstorms. High 88F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.

29.10.2004 - South indochina, here we come!
Don Muang - Aranyaprathet

12:10 am, Airasia, Don Muang
Midnight, together with z, we arrived in Don Muang ariport, Bangkok smoothly. Of course with Air Asia (with slogan now everyone can fly).
Air Asia

No more bus
Asked for information to northern/eastern bus terminal (known as satanee Morchit mai in Thai) by bus after baggage claim but was told that there was no more airport bus. This is contradictory from what I know from from web and Bangkok Mass Transport Authority. There are night bus plying around Bangkok, passing by airport and Morchit.

Night city bus to Morchit Mai
Walked to terminal 1 and there is a pedestrian bridge linking airport and Don Muang train station. Saw a bus stop (for city bus) under the bridge. Checked with pedestrians and commuters around and they confirmed night bus 59 (5.5 Baht for night bus after 11pm, non air-con) can go to our destination. Quite a number of taxis around, waiting for passengers, 20 - 50 m away from the bus stop.

Bus 59
59, is that the bus we waited for so long? Yes!, we waved to stopped cream red color bus 59. Wow! Grabbed our backpack and boarded the bus. Told the bus conductor to drop us at satanee Morchit mai in broken Thai (row ja phai satanee morchit mai, bok row yoo tee satanee). Cold night breeze, observed that a few night markets still packed with people. After 20 minutes of ride, we were informed to alight at a bus stop opposite Chatuchak park.

Bus 145
Thought that it will only be a short walking distance to the bus terminal. However, we didn’t see any sign of big bus terminal after 10 minutes of walk and seems we were stuck around Chatuchak park. Asked around and someone recommended us to take bus 145 (8 Baht for night bus, air-con) to continue our remaining journery to Satanee Morchit mai (new Morchit station). Within ten minutes, we reached the bus terminal we have longed to reach.

Satanee Morchit mai
Gordon from Tales of Asia said “First-class buses depart regularly for Aranyaprathet from 4 am until 6 pm. Depending on the time of day departures are between thirty and sixty minutes apart. The first-class bus is usually 164 Baht.” This piece of informtion is really useful. Without hesitation, we went to windows 30 or 31 (can’t remember) to purchase ticket and opted for the earliest bus to Aranyaprathet. The bus will depart from platform 121.

Journey to Aranyaprathet
Slept once I was on the bus. Woke up at a checkpoint about twenty kilometers before the border. A Thai army officer came. According to Gordon, this is to grab illegal Cambodians crossing into Thailand.

7:35 am, Aranyaprathet bus station
We arrived. Bus station to the border about 6 kilometers away. Took a tuk-tuk (60 Baht).
A ride on a tuk tuk
Breakfast time, (1)kuay teow with vegetables (2)water (nam plau).

Cendol and curry chicken beehon

Tonight: Variably cloudy with scattered thunderstorms. Low 76F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.

Cendol
What: A dessert in which strands of green “cendol” are served in a cold mixture of coconut milk, brown syrup made from the local gula melaka, and shaved ice.
Price: RM1.20
When: Last day of 2004

It was a cloudy afternoon with M in Subang, looking for something to fill after our claypot Bah Kut Teh breakfast cum lunch in Klang. Traffic was slow, the stall that M usually goes is closed that Friday, maybe new year eve.

Headed to another stall which is located somewhere near the staircase leading to a mosque. The mosque can be seen clearly from the traffic light in front of Subang Parade. Besides it, there is a rojak stall.

“Minum, dua”, M ordered. We took the small bowl and started to feel the unique freezzing coconut fragrance taste. “Lack of some ummhh, I prefer another stall I mentioned to you, but closed today”, he commented. I shared the same, to me the one at Jalan Sultan (KL) tastes better.

Any good recommendation?

Rating: Three / Five

Curry chicken beehon
What: My mother mixs curry chicken and beehon together.
Price: Need to check with my mum
When: First day of 2005

She suddenly came up with this idea, mix curry chicken she cooked with beehon, but not laksa, actually. Thicker soup with potato instead of Beansprouts (Taugeh). Haha, taste rich. Brother seems enjoyed it very much.

Rating: Three point five / Five

More new ideas in this new year 2005, I think so…
