Mountain to Climb: The Quest for Everest and Beyond

Inspired by David’s dream - to climb the Everest, I am reading his book. He was the leader of Singapore’s 1st mount Everest Expedition in 1998.

David Lim’s book, Mountain to Climb

I am amazed at his determination to counter the rare and mysterious nerve disorder, Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which he suffered one week after the S’pore mount Everest Expedition team’s triumphant return from Nepal.

Lim Chan Yew back with Bournemouth

Congrats! Chan Yew.

Lim Chan Yew

Bournemouth are to invite Malaysia international Lim Chan Yew back to the club for a month as part of their preparations for the 2005-6 season.

Chan Yew was at the Fitness First Stadium in March 2005 and trained with the first-team squad but was unable to play any competitive games due to complications over his work permit.

Manager Sean O’Driscoll will now be able to run the rule over the Malaysian defender-cum-midfielder in some of his side’s pre-season friendlies which kick off against Hamworthy Recreation on July 12. According to some other reliable sources, he may get a chance to play against Charlton, Portsmouth and Southampton for Bournemouth pre-season friendlies.

* Bournemouth rank No. 8 in the 2004-5 Coca-Cola Football League One Table.

RM30 new SVIP bus ticket price from JB to Klang

18 May 2005:
Really hot, sweating…
At 4:36 pm, I was in the bus to Larkin bus terminal. Looking out bus window, I mumbled, “I must be late… ” because the JB/Klang bound express bus is scheduled to depart at 4:30pm. Finally, the bus drove into its designated parking lot. I raised my head to search through bus platform while steping down from the bus, much to my surprise, there was a Super Wira bus there!

Super Wira bus

Without wasting any more time, I rushed myself to counter 32B, asking for ticket to Klang. A little bit down when the counter personnel told me that I have to wait for the next bus. Not giving up, I cried, “I saw the Super Wira bus outside!”, pointing my finger towards the bus lane direction.

With her walkie-talkie, she stopped the bus from departing. “RM30, dik”, she claimed and I tried to bargain for a RM2 discount as I doubted a hike of 20% could be allowed by the government (old price: RM25). “Tambang dah naik, RM30 standard price”, she explained politely.

Purchased the ticket and boarded the bus, just on time. Five hour plus later, I arrived in Klang.

Without additional authorities’ efforts to control continous rise in cost of living, we may not see better service, shorter travelling and waiting time with fare hike and another hike will come, very soon.

At least, I hope some guidelines can be issued to some bus companies to improve the poor air-conditioning on their bus.

Malaysia lost to Singapore again!

Malaysia lost again to Singapore, second time in less than a week time.

MAS 1 - 2 SIN

19′ [0 - 1] Noh Alam Shah
25′ [1 - 1] Arsyah Ayob
66′ [1 - 2] Daniel Bennett

Striker Nizaruddin Yusof was ineffective, slow and looking nowhere. This guy really make your blood boil! Especially when his penalty effort was saved by Singapore goalkeeper Lionel Lewis… If not Arsyah Ayob was on hand to turn in the rebound, Malaysia would miss this golden opportunity to equalise.

I don’t know whether he will admit himself as the front-seat passenger of Malaysia national football team? I see no improvement in his skill and to the worse, he is still adopting the same old playing style which can’t beat any defenders.

Frankly speaking, I had see enough of him, either playing against Chelsea when representing Malaysia in 2003 or came in as 2nd half substitutes for MPPJ in the 2004 Sultan of Selangor cup.
