Pre-China, Chinatown (Kreta Ayer)

Visited the money changer to change more HKD. Brought Lim Chee Guan Bak Kwa (林志源肉乾), or sliced barbecued pork at New Bridge Road. This brand began in 1938, about 69 years of history and very popular.

Here’s some message I noted down about 5 years ago, in 2002.

“You shall see the shop, with a lot of people “q”ing, according to some of them; they waited for nearly 4 hours to make their purchase.”

“Every customer is limited to 3 kgs. Every kg is $44. I tasted one piece, is fresh and hot! Traditionally made with soft and juicy meat (not dry and hard to tear). Smell not too strong but as you crunch it slowly, you can feel the taste come out slowly.”

I hope the standard of the Bak Kwa remains.

Asean Football Championship: Thailand 1 - 0 Malaysia

A header from Sarayoot Chaikamdee sinked Malaysia’s crappy defence. Thailand won the match but really lucky this time for Malaysia.

1) Philippines drew Myanmar 0-0 to help Malaysia to qualify for the semis.
2) Kiatisuk’s free kick hit the cross-bar.
3) Malaysia down with 10 men after Irwan Fadzli Idrus was shown red card by referee.
4) Sarayoot squandered a clear cut chance just before halftime

The new substitutes brought in by Norizan not really helping the team. Too lazy to mention about the playing style of Samsarak and Rezal, I pity Hairuddin struggling in the frontline. Obviously, he tried very hard with his head but no quality cross from the midfielders.

What next? Defense seems as the weakest… The next semifinals leg will be in KL.

See how effective Thailand striker converts chances into goal.

China, I’m coming!

I collected my passport from Embassy of China in Singapore at Tanglin Road, about 10 am. Excited to see the China visa pasted nicely, bearing a striking China National Emblem, which contains a representation of Tiananmen Gate in a red circle, and above this representation are the five stars found on the national flag.

It costs me S$50 for a single entry visa as Malaysia passport is considered 3rd Country in the eye of embassy of China in Singapore. On the other hand, Singapore passport need to pay only half of what I paid for.

Side preparation included changing the local currency into Ren Min Bi (RMB or ¥ or Yuan) and Hong Kong dollars (HKD) in Chinatown. Borrowed a Lonely Planet China travel guide from national library.

I’m ready. First stop will be Macau. No detailed travel plans yet.

New Malaysia National Team Kit by Nike = RM259

Called Al-ikhsan Bukit Bintang Plaza outlet yesterday night. It’s RM259.

Almost on par with other top national teams jersey. Does it worth that much? Internal struggle begins, should I get the original one or just buy 3 months later in Jalan Petaling?

I didn’t expect it to be so expensive, there should be a local price tag to products featuring uniquely local icons.

The Lin Family’s Shop

Just finished watching The Lin Family’s Shop 林家铺子 DVD. This film was adopted from the same title chinese classic written by Mao Dun 茅盾.

Simple introduction by PRCmovie.com:

n 1930s, many small businesses had a hard time surviving with the confusion generated by the political uncertainty of the time. Whose law is to be followed, the Japanese occupation forces or the bureaucrat nationalist government? Lin, who owns a family shop, racks his brain to save himself from bankruptcy. He tries everything, even cheats a poor widow out of the meager saving she deposited in his store, but finally loses everything.

Produced in 1959 and of course, this film is a resemble of the 30s in China. The sad episode at the end of story describes the harsh reality of that era’s society, on how constrain or repress one’s emotions can be, when facing it.

This film won the Special Jury Prize at the 12th Fegladafuz International Film Festival, Portugal in 1983.

Babel Fish Translation

I was in the midst of trying to understand what is “Vertaling van liedjestekst“? Suspect this sentence is in dutch because the blog “Space van Julie” sounds very Netherlands to me.

I am lucky enough to find Babel Fish Translation by Altavista. Altavista used to be a popular search engine, almost on par with Yahoo! during 1995 - 98.

You can translate text or entire web sites with this tool and it offers translatation among 13 languages. English, French, Chinese, Dutch, Russian, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish

So the meaning of the sentence I mentioned is “Translation of song text” . Let see if there are any other powerful translation tools other than this one?
