As predicted, apa barang pun naik after 8 Mar. Finally, here is the anouncement!
The petrol is now RM2.70 per litre and diesel RM2.58 a litre following a cut in the fuel subsidy, with effective of 5 June.
However, there will be an annual RM625 and RM200 cash rebates for owners of private vehicles with an engine capacity of up to 2,000cc and pick-up trucks and jeeps up to 2,500cc, cash rebates of RM150 for owners of motorcycles with a 250cc engine or less. For owners of private vehicles with engine capacities above 2,000cc, there is a road tax discount of RM200.
You can use this table to calculate how much you need to spend extra following the fuel hike. Opps, this calculation only works for those driving vehicle up to 2000cc, who cares for those driving big cars, they surely can afford it!

In addition to the fuel price increase, Tenaga Nasional Bhd will be raising electricity rates by 20% for homes, and 26% for business users.
You may like to ask, will the fuel hike coupled with the cash rebates can really relieve the financial burden of lower income group?
